New Talent 2013

Our next exhibition will be New Talent 2013. The exhibition will feature twelve emerging artists; seven new graduates and five developing makers within their first entrepreneurial year. This exhibition will bring together exceptional examples of innovative jewellery design and craftsmanship from talented makers.

The work ranges from intricate rings inspired by the sea to striking, architectural wooden forms, all of which offer fresh ideas on design, materials and jewellery concepts.

We hope that you can join us for the Private Views on Thursday 5th September 6-9pm and Saturday 7th September 12-3pm.

This week is the last week of our 'Special.' exhibition! The exhibition will run until Saturday 15th June so make sure you come along and see some great pieces by 15 incredible makers. It has been a great exhibition so be sure not to miss it!

“I wanted to use the opportunity of this 'Special' exhibition to explore ideas for large-scale unique pieces using my distinctive resin droplet effect. My aim was for the finished work to give the impression of a fine web of gossamer threads strung with sparkling dew.”

'Special.' Daphne Krinos

Daphne Krinos

This is a collection of ‘one-off’ pieces from Daphne Krinos. Daphne demonstrates unusual ways of framing the stones she uses within these pieces, taking inspiration directly from the stones themselves. Having used softer tones than the strong black that is usually associated with her work, Daphne draws on inspiration from life in a big city, creating contrast between forms.

'Special.' Joel Degen

The three pieces which Joel Degen made for our 'Special' exhibition are named with musical reference in mind – song titles, band names and the feelings that music can evoke. Joel creates a contrast between two elements; the tension of structure and order against the free spirit and improvisation of jazz.

'Special.' Elizabeth Bone

Childhood activities of sewing, knitting and crocheting have given Elizabeth Bone a passion for making and working directly with materials. This new work rekindles her childhood love of making with thread and also introduces colour into her work.

Silk beading thread is used as an alternative way of constructing to 'sew' tubes of oxidized silver together creating lightweight, graphic pieces that are brooches. This construction method coupled with the lightweight nature of the work opens up new opportunities for playing with structures, geometry and scale.

'Special.' Emmeline Hastings

Emmeline Hastings’ three neckpieces represent a clear development in her creative processes. “I wanted to explore Perspex as a material in its own right, working in a larger and exciting scale. I have begun to work sculpturally with the Perspex in a carefully staged and individual process. Initially working with a large solid piece, through cutting, carving, sanding and polishing, I form a solid naturalistic shape. This is the basis for the design, but once segmented the piece takes on a new and flexible form opening up possibilities for its use in jewellery.

The unique process means that each piece is completely inimitable and ‘special’, they develop as they are created, as I react to the material.
