Tine De Ruysser

We have a new maker exhibiting work in the Gallery - Tine De Ruysser. Tine's collection of money jewellery is made wholly from valid notes of currency from around the world. The banknotes are only folded and not damaged in any way: no cutting is used, nor is any glue applied.  Each note can be unfolded and used as currency.

The banknote necklaces and money bracelets are a comment on gold jewellery and the reasons why we wear it. After all, paper money is historically representative of solid gold held by the bank on the bearers behalf. Through time the connection between paper money and gold has become less transparent. The relationship has almost turned around: now gold is worth money. There is much more money around than there is gold to back up its value.

Tine comments that when she makes jewellery from valid banknotes, it is like making gold jewellery: everyone can see that the jewellery is worth money and just as the value of gold changes on a daily basis the currency contained within her money jewellery does also. Tine's work is in prime position in the window of the gallery for your financial viewing pleasure!
